MTN Ghana, a leading telecommunications network, through its MTN Ghana Foundation, has launched the 7th edition of its annual "MTN Heroes of Change" initiative, introducing two new categories — Media and Digital Heroes — to honour individuals and organizations making significant societal changes.
The MTN Heroes of Change program identifies and celebrates selfless individuals or organizations who dedicate their time and resources to support their communities and brighten lives, focusing on the areas of health, education, and economic empowerment.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate Service and Sustainability Officer, highlighted that since its inception, the foundation has celebrated and awarded over 100 heroes from diverse backgrounds who are making an impact in society.
“The winners have come from a broad spectrum, ranging from the highly educated, like doctors and journalists, to those without degrees and sometimes differently abled, driven by a simple passion and compassion to care for others—such as orphans, sick children, and the differently abled. That is the beauty of Heroes of Change, for which we are so proud,” she remarked.
"Season 7 promises to continue this tradition, with the ultimate winner receiving a grand prize of GH¢100,000," she added.
She further explained that the newly introduced categories, Media and Digital Heroes, align with MTN's strategic vision to lead digital solutions for Africa's progress. These categories are designed to recognize those leveraging social media and digital platforms to drive meaningful change.
Madam Adwoa Wiafe encouraged the public to nominate individuals or organizations making a positive impact in society.
“I hope that this year's Heroes of Change program will not just be another one to watch but will energize all of us, especially the youth, to fulfill the duty we owe to our society to improve our circumstances, no matter how small. Let’s use this opportunity to support or showcase those who dare to make a difference. That’s why the nominations are so important, so please tell a friend to tell a friend to bring the nominations in,” she urged.
She also announced that the nomination portal would soon open for people to nominate their favorite heroes of change, and she commended the media, partners, and panel members for their dedicated support throughout the years.
Winners from Season 6, who were present at the launch, presented a citation to the management of MTN Ghana, applauding them for providing a platform to elevate individuals from local communities to national and international recognition.
Since its establishment in 2007, the MTN Ghana Foundation has invested 106 million cedis in over 166 major projects in education, health, and economic empowerment, directly impacting approximately 5 million people and indirectly benefiting many more.
