The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has officially kicked off this year’s Tourism Month, a nationwide initiative designed to celebrate and promote Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, stunning landscapes, and vibrant festivals.

Running throughout September, the initiative aims to stimulate domestic tourism by urging Ghanaians to explore various festivals and tourist attractions across the country.

Tourism Month, which is part of Ghana’s broader domestic tourism campaign—"Experience Ghana, Share Ghana" and "See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, Feel Ghana"—seeks to raise awareness and enthusiasm among both the tourism sector and the general public.

The campaign emphasizes promoting Made in Ghana goods and services, highlighting the unique natural and economic features of different regions, and fostering national unity.

At the launch event, David Ansah Opoku, Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, championed the initiative with a passionate appeal.

He encouraged Ghanaians to consider exploring local destinations such as Kwahu before spending their travel money abroad. "If you’re thinking of traveling to Dubai, come to Kwahu first. Experience our wonderful weather and vibrant culture. You might find that you prefer the beauty and affordability of Kwahu," Opoku stated.

Representing the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Okraku Mantey, Opoku expressed full support for the Tourism Month activities. He shared his personal experiences, noting, "I recently visited Nzema and enjoyed their coconut offerings. It has inspired me to consider investing in coconut production in the future." Opoku underscored the importance of appreciating the diverse cultures and environments within Ghana, suggesting that domestic tourism should be a priority for all.

Tourism Month will feature a variety of events, including festivals, musical concerts, and tours, culminating with World Tourism Day on September 27.

The GTA’s initiative aims to inspire Ghanaians to rediscover the beauty and richness of their own country while supporting local economies and cultural preservation.
