Hiplife started in the early 90's through to the mid 90's when the godfather Reggie Rockstone “gave birth” to hiplife. This opened the doors for many talented artistes in the likes of Efo Chicago.

He teamed up with Ex-Doe and their maiden release, Daavi Mede Kuku was a sellout. But due to certain unexplainable reasons their collaboration turned sour when they took swipes at each other.

Ex-Doe first hit Chicago with 'Maba' and Chicago was quick to reply with his Millennium Lesson.

Dzigbodzi happened to be the first album Chicago released and he did so under Yakabams Record label.

He followed it with 'Daben' but this album was only released in the US since the CD rights was sold to an event manager who was to promote the album.

Things turned bad after that since Chicago's manager traveled outside the country and that was the end of the story.

Chicago later teamed up with a couple of young talented artists to form the Efo Drums which is more or less like a training ground for up and coming artists to learn and develop their musical talents and skills.
