Power fluctuations damage equipment worth ¢20m

Office equipment in the Old Assembly Block of Bawku that houses various offices valued at over ¢20 million were destroyed as a result of power fluctuations.

The offices include the Ghana News Agency, Judiciary Service and Non-Formal Education Division.

Equipment destroyed included five computers and accessories, printers, stabilizers, UPS systems, air conditioners, ceiling fans and tape recorders.

On day of the incident, power was switched off at about 0820 hours for two minutes and turned on and off again after just a minute.

Power stayed off for about 10 minutes before it came on again for two minutes. It went off for about five minutes and on and off.

The Volta River Authority (VRA) said the problem was from the main lines serving Bawku.
