A Students Loan Officer of NUGS, Mr Theophilus Tawiah, is calling on the government to expedite action on the disbursement of the new Students' Loan Trust Fund (SLTF).
In a press statement to Joy News, Mr Tawiah said accessing the fund is cumbersome unlike the previous Students' Loan Scheme administered by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
It said: “The semester is almost coming to an end and a further attempt will be suicidal for that reason the SLTF must expedite action in paying the students who have applied for the loans. Evidence adduced shows that the payment of the loans is slow as compared to the Students` Loan Scheme. Students are grossly overburdened by transportation fares, daily photocopies, purchase of educational literature, balance diet, general maintenance, academic facility user fees and residential facility user fees.”
It said authorities of the SLTF should take quick action to address the needs of applicants “so that the purpose of the loan is not thrown out of cinch.”
