National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Mahama has proposed an annual national day of prayer and thanksgiving.

During a campaign stop in Ho in the Volta Region on Thursday, August, 15, Mahama explained during his meeting with religious leaders that this would give Ghanaians an opportunity to collectively thank God for His blessings on the nation.

It would also be a day for spiritual intercession seeking God's continued favour and provision, says the one-time President.

"In all things, we must give thanks. In happiness, sadness, and whatever happens to us, we must give thanks," Mahama said, quoting scripture.

He emphasized the biblical principle of acknowledging God's goodness in the past to invite more blessings in the future.

“He says count your blessings, and if you accept and recognise what he has done for you, he will do even more for you,” reads part of a statement from his campaign office.

Mahama spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari said the former president believes recognizing divine help already received "will bring more good in the future."

She described the proposed day as an expression of Mahama's "commitment to fostering a strong and prosperous Ghana for all its citizens."
