The Chief Executive Officer of Tobinco Group of Companies, Samuel Amo Tobbin, has credited his company’s victory in the legal battle against the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to his commitment to paying tithes in church.
According to him, his practice of faithfully giving 10% of his income to God played a key role in turning the tide in his favour.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Point of View program, Amo Tobbin reflected on the recent Accra High Court ruling that ordered the FDA to pay over GH¢93 million in compensation to Tobinco Pharmaceuticals Ltd.
The court found that the FDA unlawfully destroyed unexpired drugs belonging to Tobinco, exonerating the company from accusations of importing fake drugs.
"It’s simple, and I don’t know if other churches are doing the same, but it’s the church that made us who we are through teachings on tithing and sacrificial giving," Amo Tobbin said.
He continued, "We give sacrificially without being pushed or forced. We are taught to give at least 10% of our income or profit to God, and we do it faithfully."
He emphasised that consistent tithing and supporting the church have brought blessings and growth to his business.
"The church has a lot of responsibilities — paying pastors’ salaries, utility bills, and more. When we give, we do it freely, as though we are giving to God, not to the church or the pastor.
“That’s what sustains and grows our business. I came out of this because I pay my tithe," he explained.
Amo Tobbin’s remarks come after the High Court in Accra, on July 29, 2024, ruled that the FDA’s actions were unlawful and ordered the authority to compensate Tobinco Pharmaceuticals with GH¢93,905,760.79 for the destruction of the company’s drugs.
