NDC 2024 elections: ‘I strongly believe NDC will win hands down’ — Asiedu Nketiah

The National Chairman of the main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia has expressed confidence in his party chances to win the 2024 general elections "hands down" and in a single round.

In an interview with Joy News' PM Express program on Wednesday, August 14, Asiedu Nketia dismissed the notion that a change in governing party after two terms of an incumbent president typically results in a runoff election.

“We are looking at a one-touch victory," he stated.

The NDC chairman argued that Ghanaian voters will evaluate the performance of President Nana Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) over their nearly 8 years in power.

“It’s not just a straightforward thing that when there is a change of party, there is a runoff. It depends more on the performance of the sitting president, how well he has performed, or otherwise," he said.

Asiedu Nketia cited the NDC's message of "giving hope to a hopeless situation" as another factor that will boost support for the party in the upcoming elections.

“And I think that all put together, we are likely to have a one-touch election victory," he remarked confidently.

The NDC leader also took aim at the Akufo-Addo administration's record, indicating that economic conditions have deteriorated under the NPP.

“Nobody will answer that question for you. I don't think it lies in the mouth of NDC alone to tell any Ghanaian that we are far worse off as a country now compared to what used to be the situation," he noted.

While expressing optimism over an electoral triumph, Asiedu Nketia stressed that the opposition party must work hard to sway voters.

“Let us now bring a better, stronger message and sell it properly to the electorate. Make sure that when they deliver their intentions through voting, we are able to protect the votes until we are declared winners," he advised staff and supporters.
