The Executive Chairman of McDan Group of Companies, Dr Daniel McKorley, has called for a private sector led implementation of the government's One District One Factory (1D1F) policy.

In an interview with Joy FM's Super Morning Show on Wednesday, August 14, Dr McKorley acknowledged that 1D1F is "one of the brilliant ideas that this government came up with."

However, the business mogul noted that "the implementation was wrong and I questioned it."

Dr McKorley stated "If you look at our economy, what we need is industries. Industry is a whole chain that creates lots of jobs."

He believes that 1D1F "is supposed to be left for the private sector, and an Advisory Board of people who have made it can advise and say 'If you go here, you will fail'."

The McDan Group chairman proposed that "1D1F needs to be run as a business. So put it in the hands of the private sector and they would protect the business."

The policy's objective of transforming Ghana's economic structure by promoting domestic value addition and production garners support in principle among industry stakeholders and analysts.

However, on the ground, the execution of the 1D1F initiative is yet to deliver the envisioned results and transformational impact.
