The Minority in Parliament has disclosed that it is yet to receive a response from the Ghana Police Service on its rescheduled demonstration against the Governor and Board of the Bank of Ghana (BoG).
The Minority in Parliament received an initial response from the Ghana Police Service dated July 17, approving its earlier communicated date and route for its planned demonstration against the Governor and the Bank of Ghana deputies.
The demonstration which was originally scheduled for the 30th of July, 2024, coincided with the planning of activities and events in the lead-up to the launch of the NDC's national campaign in Tamale.
Consequently, the Minority wrote to the Ghana Police Service requesting to reschedule the demonstration from its original date to Tuesday, 13th August 2024, between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. The originally agreed route, however, remained unchanged.
Today, the Minority has indicated that it is yet to receive a response from the Ghana Police Service after writing to communicate the rescheduling of the protest.
“With just a day to our proposed demonstration, the Minority in Parliament is yet to receive a response from the Ghana Police Service on our request for rescheduling,” the concerned Minority said in a letter to the Greater Accra Regional Commander of the Police Service.
In its letter, the Minority requested a meeting with the Police at a venue and time of its choice, to consider the modalities for the demonstration against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies.
With less than 12 hours to the demonstration date, it is unclear whether the Minority’s demonstration is coming as planned.
