Airbus Scandal: It’s a pleasant feeling to stand vindicated – Mahama

Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has stated that he is pleased that finally he has been cleared of allegations in the Airbus bribery scandal.

Delivering a lecture at the 10th anniversary of the death of PV Obeng in Kumasi on Friday, August 9, the former president said it’s a pleasure that none of the allegations made against him since he left office has been proven.

“I have been out of office for more than seven years, seven month no allegation of wrong doing has been proven against me including the baseless, airbus brouhaha that this government attempted to clothe me with.

“Once again today, I say it is a pleasant feeling to stand vindicated,” John Dramani Mahama said.

An investigative report by the Office of the Special Prosecutor on Thursday, August 8, indicated that there is no proof to substantiate the allegation that the former President received a bribe in the government’s deal with Airbus SE for the purchase of military aircrafts.

“The OSP found no evidentiary basis that suggests that Samuel Adam Foster also known as Samuel Adam Mahama, and Sarah Davies received payment from Airbus with the intention of bribing former President John Dramani Mahama or any other public official.

“Further, the OSP found no evidential basis that suggests that former President John Dramani Mahama or any other public official was paid bribes by Samuel Adam Foster also known as Samuel Adam Mahama in respect of the purchase of Government of Ghana military transport aircraft from Airbus,” Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng told the press.

At the public lecture today, John Dramani Mahama said, “We in the NDC do not place ourselves above society, we are humble and honest enough to submit ourselves to investigative bodies if a basis for it arises.”
