Haruna Mohammed, the Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has accused the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) of conducting a "lazy job" of its investigation into the Airbus bribery scandal.
In an interview with JoyNews, Mr. Mohammed expressed dissatisfaction with the OSP's handling of the case, particularly its failure to obtain crucial documents, including the UK court ruling that identified former President John Mahama as "Government Official 1."
"The OSP has done a lazy job because you can't conclude by saying that you don't have all the facts at hand; hence you cannot prosecute the case.
“Did he go to the UK to ask for the judgment? What was the material used in the judgment in the UK?
“Has he been denied the judgment?" Mohammed questioned during the interview.
Mohammed's remarks come in reaction to Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng's announcement that the OSP found no evidence of wrongdoing against John Mahama in connection with the Airbus scandal.
Agyebeng further confirmed that “the procurement process for military aircraft during Mahama's tenure adhered to required standards.”
For these reasons, he concluded that he cannot institute criminal charges against the former President.
