The General Manager of the Northern Business District of MTN Ghana, Mr. Nii Adotey Mingle, has refuted claims that fraudsters can have access to one's MoMo or any other accounts without the person's approval.
He said such notions or claims are lies.
Mr. Mingle in an interview with this reporter disclosed that the only means through which a fraudster can access someone's account is when the person entertains the fraudster by following their tricky instructions.
He further expressed worry over the fraudulent activities which still persist despite all efforts to curb them.
"These fraudulent guys wouldn't have called or texted you if they could access your account straight away as suggested by some victims. That's never the case. No fraudster can do that without the user's concern, and that is why we always advise people to stop entertaining these random callers either with text messages or calls," he said.
He said fraud remains one of the prevalent issues that continue to hinder their work of promoting digital and financial inclusion in the country.
"MoMo fraud is an issue we are very passionate about at Mobile Money LTD and we will continue to work with all stakeholders through sensitization and awareness initiatives and will continue to invest in robust security measures to combat it and protect our valued customers," he added.
He, however revealed that there has been a drastic reduction in fraudulent activities, adding that the introduction of the Ghana Card has also been a contributory factor in the fight against the canker.
He said this during the 15-year anniversary celebration of the MTN MoMo experience in Ghana held in Kumasi.
He urges customers to protect their PINs and avoid clicking on unsolicited links, responding to fake SMS messages, or entertaining calls from persons tricking them for information.
He concluded that MTN remains committed to providing great customer experience to all their customers regardless of their location.
