The ongoing controversy surrounding the "Agyapadie" document is having a detrimental impact on NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's presidential bid, according to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, claims the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is deeply concerned about how discussions around the document are affecting Dr. Bawumia's campaign.
In a social media post on Friday, August 9, Dr. Apaak alleged the NPP and Bawumia campaign held a meeting to discuss the issue and concluded that "its continuous discussion is detrimental to their campaign."
He said the meeting attendees decided to "falsely accuse functionaries and members of the NDC of authoring and publishing it," and using the court "to get an injunction placed on the document, its circulation and discussion in the media."
Dr. Apaak cited NPP deputy national communication director, Ernest Owusu Bempah’s petition to the Ghana Police Service to have the alleged publishers investigated and prosecuted.
The lawmaker said people should "watch out for phase two[of the alleged meeting’s outcome], which is court action."
However, the Builsa South MP noted that "no one can use any institution of state, police or the courts to gag us from discussing the Agyapadie document and its contents."
He said the NDC will "continue talking about the Agyapadie blueprint and will not relent in pointing out the evidence confirming its implementation."
The "Agyapadie" document first made headlines in 2016, featuring photos of President Nana Akufo-Addo and Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin alongside claims of a scheme by powerful Akyem figures to dominate Ghana's politics, economy and society.
It also predicted changes in SSNIT leadership and a banking sector clean-up, among other predictions that have come to pass in recent years.
Speaking at an event last week, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the book is a fake document created by his political opponents to cause disaffection for the NPP ahead of the December polls.
Meanwhile, members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), notably their flagbearer John Mahama say the book’s contents and the current happenings are too accurate to be just propaganda.
