Why the odds are against Bawumia

Feature Article Why the odds are against Bawumia

There could be several reasons why the odds could be against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its flag bearer in the 2024 polls in Ghana:

Anti-incumbency sentiment: After being in power for a certain period, there is often a natural anti-incumbency sentiment among voters who may be dissatisfied with the current government's performance.

Economic challenges: Because the country is facing economic difficulties, high inflation, unemployment and other economic challenges, voters are most likely to hold the ruling party responsible and be less likely to vote for them in the next election.

Internal party issues: Factionalism, infighting and leadership disputes within the NPP have weaken the party's unity and effectiveness in campaigning for the 2024 election.

Scandals and corruption allegations: The numerous scandals and corruption allegations involving the NPP and its leadership have damaged the party's reputation and eroded public trust, making it harder to win the election.

A strong and compelling campaign message is essential for rallying support, inspiring voters, and differentiating the candidate from the opposition, but unfortunately, the 2024 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Bawumia, is perceived to lack a credible campaign message, and this could significantly impact the party's chances in the election.

Additionally, Dr. Bawumia has not articulated specific policy proposals or a coherent vision for the country's future, voters may, therefore, find it difficult to understand what he stands for and what he plans to achieve if elected.

Also, some voters perceive Dr. Bawumia's campaign message as insincere, opportunistic, or disconnected from their concerns, and they may be less likely to trust him as a leader.

More importantly, Dr. Bawumia's campaign message does not address the pressing issues facing the country or resonate with the priorities of the electorate, and therefore voters may not see him as a viable and credible candidate.
