The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region has rejected claims by pro-government media houses that its presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, cut short a campaign tour of the Northern Region to rescue the party's fortunes in the region due to inroads made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a statement issued on Thursday, August 8, NDC Volta Regional Communications Officer Sorkpa K. Agbleze said Mahama's scheduled visit to Volta was always part of the party's comprehensive national campaign plan and not a reaction to any pressure.

"His subsequent decision to visit the Volta Region was pre-planned and as such part of our comprehensive national campaign strategy.

“It is not a reactive response to any 'intense pressure' from the Volta Regional Executives to come save the Region from any so-called 'inroads' made by the Flagbearer of the NPP during his recent campaign tour as erroneously reported by Asaase Radio," the statement reads in part.

The party stressed, "Our honest message continues to resonate strongly with the people of the North and our trust and confidence in the people of the Volta Region remains unshaken."

The statement further affirmed the Volta Region's loyalty to the NDC, stating it can not in any way be compromised.

“The Volta Region still remains the world bank of the NDC and that bond cannot in any way be compromised by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's weakest flagbearer in recent history,” it noted.
