The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reaffirmed its stronghold of the Volta Region, dismissing media speculation that suggested its campaign is struggling for support in the region.
In a statement on Thursday, August 8, NDC Volta Regional Communications Officer Sorkpa K. Agbleze stated firmly that "the Volta Region still remains the world bank of the NDC."
The party was responding to reports that NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama cut short a Northern Region campaign tour to rescue the party's fortunes in Volta from alleged "inroads" made by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The opposition party described such claims as "mischievous and misleading", saying Mr. Mahama's visit was always planned as part of the NDC's national campaign strategy.
"Our trust and confidence in the people of the Volta Region remains unshaken," the statement affirmed.
It dismissed NPP presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s ability to sway loyal NDC support in the region, describing the latter as the "weakest flagbearer in recent history."
