THE NEWLY built Pedestrian Shopping Mall in Accra was extensively flooded as a result of the recent heavy rains, causing serious economic disaster for the traders.

The flood destroyed goods and many wooden structures, costing millions of cedis.

Speaking to The Chronicle, Mr. Adu Amanquah Kenneth, Assistant Secretary for Rawlings Park Branch and United Petty Traders Association Member, said the flooding of the market should be blamed on the shoddy work of the contractor.

He said billions of cedis had been spent in the construction of the market and urged the Accra Metropolitan Assembly to take appropriate measures to rectify the problem as we are getting into the rainy season.

Speculations from other traders indicated that the flood carried two people away while others said three.
