Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani has opined that there is a connection between the crisis in Bawku and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in power.

Speaking during his tour of the Upper East Region, the former President said this is why the crisis in Bawku flairs up when the NPP is in power but things become peaceful when the NDC returns to power.

“Anytime NDC is in government Bawku is at peace. Unfortunately, as soon as NDC leaves government the Bawku crisis flairs up again. Let nobody say it’s a fight between ethnic groups,” John Dramani Mahama said.

According to the former President, although the people in Bawku want peace, some people are always working in the background with funds to fuel the crisis.

“There is politics behind it and there are people who deliberately fund that crisis. The majority of people in Bawku wants peace because everybody wants peace to do his business,” John Dramani Mahama argued.

He further assured the people of Bawku and the Chiefs that when elected president in the 2024 General Election, his government will work to ensure lasting peace returns to Bawku and its environs.

“Peace is our priority. When the NDC comes we are going to prioritise Bawku’s peace so that peace will return to Bawku and people can go about their business and look after their families,” Mahama stressed.
