Mr. Benjamin Quashie, Chair of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders in South Africa, criticized President Akufo-Addo and Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panyin II regarding the controversial 'Agyapadie Document.'

According to Mr. Quashie, the document reveals a state capture agenda involving Akufo-Addo and his associates. He suggested that the leaders' dismissal of the document's content indicates an awareness of its implications. He also expressed skepticism about the possibility of prophetic insights from the author, disagreeing with the leaders' denials.

Mr. Quashie cautioned against generalizing the entire Akyem community based on the document. However, he specifically criticized descendants of J.B. Danquah, such as Ken Ofori-Atta and Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, labeling them as examples of avarice within the so-called "Akyem Mafia." He also acknowledged that there are commendable individuals within the Akyem group.

In an interview on Accra 100.5 FM on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Mr. Quashie also criticized President Akufo-Addo for attributing the document to his political opponents. He suggested that certain financial activities, such as bank closures benefiting Data Bank, indicated ulterior motives. He highlighted a pattern of favoritism in Akufo-Addo's administration, especially regarding insured services and businesses owned by figures like Ken Ofori-Atta.

Expressing concern about potential state capture under the current administration, Mr. Quashie called for a thorough investigation and reorganization. He drew comparisons to historical instances under leaders like Jacob Zuma in South Africa and anticipated corrective action with a change in governance when President Mahama assumes office.
