UBA Ghana Limited, formerly Standard Trust Bank, after pioneering the entry of a new generation of international banks into Ghana, has moved a step ahead once again with the introduction of a text-based banking facility that will make banking much easier.

UBA has introduced a new product called the Wise Alert, which Managing Director Nnamdi Okonkwo says is designed to make monitoring of banking transactions a lot easier through the use of the mobile phone and e-mail addresses.

UBA customers who sign-up to the Wise Alert service receive instant notification on their mobile phones and via e-mail, details of every transaction in relation to their accounts.

Wise Alert also sends a notification when debit and credit transactions take place and when lodged cheques are cleared into customers account.

According to Mr. Okonkwo, they have retuned their product development capacity “by capacitating a dedicated department to develop new products to strengthen the UBA group” and also bring greater benefits to their customers.

Wise Alert will not be the last such product from UBA, as the bank is getting ready to introduce a series of other electronic products developed using its superior information technology platform.

The Special Products Manager of UBA Ghana, Reverend Emmanuel Markwei said at the product launch that despite the various problems associated with the mobile network, “customers are assured to receive their notifications when their phones are in coverage area and also when switched off.”

Austin Abolusoro, who is head of the bank's IT and Electronic Banking added that the new service will enable customers protect their accounts by detecting fraudulent transactions on time, while salaried workers would not have to come to the bank to queue for long hours to check whether they have been paid.

The new product will also help project monitoring teams to monitor funds meant for projects.

Mr. Okonkwo noted that Wise Alert is a further demonstration of the banks commitment to more customer driven products.
