In a surprising turn of events, Lawyer Clement Opoku Gyamfi has debunked reports of an injunction against Kwame Asafo-Agyei Ayeh, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the Bosome Freho Constituency.
According to media reports, a Kumasi High Court had granted an interlocutory injunction against Asafo-Agyei Ayeh, restraining him from presenting himself as the NPP's candidate due to alleged eligibility issues.
However, Lawyer Gyamfi has described the publication as "untrue" and "misleading".
"We are shocked and disappointed by the false reportage," Lawyer Gyamfi said in an interview with reporters.
"There is no injunction against our client, and we urge the public to disregard the publication," he insisted.
The alleged injunction was said to have been filed by Yaw Amoah Gyamih, Chairman of the NPP's Council of Elders in the constituency, who claimed Asafo-Agyei Ayeh did not meet the party's eligibility criteria.
However, Lawyer Opoku Gyamfi insists that the report is "baseless" and "motivated by malice".
The NPP has yet to officially comment on the matter, but sources close to the party indicate that Asafo-Agyei Ayeh remains the party's parliamentary candidate for the Bosome Freho Constituency.
The development has sparked confusion among party supporters and constituents, who are eagerly awaiting clarification on the matter.
As the December 2024 general election approaches, the NPP will likely face increased scrutiny over its candidate selection process.
