Salam Mustapha, National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticized what he perceives as the double standards of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding their attitude towards the judiciary.
Speaking on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Mustapha lambasted the NDC for celebrating the acquittal of their Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, while previously denigrating the same judicial system.
"The NDC suddenly finds value in our judicial system when it suits them. They attacked and vilified the judiciary in the past, tarnishing its reputation, solely driven by their own narrow interests," Mustapha remarked.
He pointed out that all three justices on the panel that acquitted Ato Forson were appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, yet the NDC did not criticize them as they had done previously in other cases.
"It's hypocritical for the NDC to behave this way. Not everything can revolve around their whims and caprices. This behavior has gone on for too long, and we must put an end to this nonsense," he added.
An Accra Court of Appeal recently acquitted Ato Forson, who the Attorney-General had accused of financial misconduct related to the purchase of ambulances for the country.
The High Court had earlier dismissed his application for a no-case submission, but the Appeals Court, with a 2:1 majority decision, ruled in his favor.
