Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of NDC Flagbearer Mr. John Dramani Mahama, has empathized with women traders, urging them to understand their husbands' financial challenges amid the country's economic downturn.
Addressing market women in Dunkwa Mfoum in Central Region, at her regional tour, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang acknowledged the hardships faced by traders, worsened by poor economic management under the current government.
She encouraged women to be patient with their husbands who may struggle to provide financial support due to job losses or business downturns caused by economic difficulties.
"The deteriorated economic situation is not your husbands' fault. It's the result of poor economic management by the government," she asserted.
Highlighting the NDC's awareness of these challenges, especially concerning access to credit and high business costs, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang outlined the party's plans to establish a Women’s Development Bank.
This initiative aims to provide easy access to credit for women entrepreneurs without requiring traditional collateral or interest rates.
She projected that over one million women would benefit from the Women’s Development Bank, underscoring the potential positive impact on households and the broader economy.
However, she emphasized that realizing these plans hinges on the electoral support of women to return the NDC to power.
"When women have access to funding for their businesses, it benefits entire households," she stated.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang also addressed the soaring costs of food items, which affect market traders' livelihoods, urging them to seize the opportunity to vote for a change in leadership.
"You have the power to bring about change through your vote," she urged the market women.
