Dr. Barimah Asumadu Sakye, Bono East Regional Director for the Centre for National Culture (CNC), has called on stakeholders to consider renovating the Regional Office to better reflect its status.
He expressed concern about the current state of the office, which consists of only two rooms in poor condition, deeming it unfit for a regional office.
Currently, the CNC shares the building with other departments, including the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the National Identification Authority (NIA), Legal Aid, and the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC). Dr. Sakye argued that this arrangement limits the CNC's independence and called for the organization to have sole occupancy to facilitate smooth cultural activities.
In an interview with this reporter at his office in Techiman, Dr. Sakye revealed that he had personally furnished the office, which he found empty except for a table and chair upon his arrival. He emphasized the urgency of renovating the facility, especially as the region prepares to host the National Festival of Arts and Culture (NAFAC) later this year. He stressed that the current state of the office would not present a favorable image to visitors from all sixteen regions of Ghana during the festival.
Dr. Sakye urged the Regional Coordinating Council, the Techiman Municipal Assembly, and other partners to prioritize the renovation of the building to enhance its status as the regional capital. He called on individuals, non-governmental organizations, state agencies, businesses, and the general public to support the upcoming NAFAC event, which will be the first ever hosted in the region.
He also highlighted the need for proper infrastructure and logistics, such as a vehicle and other resources, to support administrative work and ensure effective monitoring and supervision. Dr. Sakye emphasized that an upgraded office would project a positive image of the new Bono East Region, showcasing its potential and aspirations. He reaffirmed the CNC's commitment to promoting the region's cultural heritage, including collaborating with stakeholders like the Ghana Tourism Authority.
