The Chairman for the Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bosome Freho Constituency, Yaw Amoah Gyamih, has secured an interlocutory injunction at a Kumasi High Court to stop Kwame Asafo-Agyei Ayeh from presenting himself as the party's parliamentary candidate for the constituency.

Mr. Gyamih is seeking a court order to restrain Mr. Asafo-Agyei Ayeh from holding himself out as the NPP's candidate, citing that he does not meet the party's eligibility criteria.

Specifically, Mr. Gyamih argues that Mr. Asafo-Agyei Ayeh is not a native of the constituency and has not lived there for the past five years, making him ineligible to lead the party.

The plaintiff, a veteran party member who has served in various capacities as constituency chairman, founding member, and Council of Elders chairman since 1992, claims that Mr. Asafo-Agyei Ayeh has never worked with the party and is unfamiliar with its rules and regulations.

Mr. Gyamih is urging the court to compel the party to follow its own rules, as all attempts to get the party to do so have been unsuccessful.

The court's decision will have significant implications for the NPP's parliamentary candidacy in the Bosome Freho Constituency just few months to the December 7 general elections.
