Can democracy win the trophy of excellence?

Can democracy win the trophy of excellence?
LISTEN

US former President Donald Trump in the ongoing election campaign promises the Americans they only need to vote once more opening doors for discussion he wants to use democracy to establish himself as a kind of dictator as we know from the strategy of Adolf Hitler.

In Europe, we have observed for years that few political parties built powerful nations after WWII and boosted democracy one particular form of governance mankind has seen and passed through. It voices the power of the people like no other form can be the public narrative. As more pressing problems were solved time was on hand for marginal groups to voice their interests.

"Established parties" failed to address these concerns being an opportunity for underdogs to form political parties and win votes. Some of these personalized parties have a short-shelf life others live longer or change course as the wind blows into another direction. Each party in Parliament understands that losing voters means less income and less relevance. Consistency and generation visions are substituted and sacrificed for short-term wins to enter parliament again with an exceptional result at the next election. Political strategies matter more than the political outcome of and in an ever-more complex world. Today matters more than the dream of a millennium. To walk by sight and not by vision is sailing in the wind of opportunities not by the wind of destiny and glory.

The democratic landscape in developed and developing countries leads to frustration among the youth named significantly Generation Z. In various countries, they live a different life. What they seem to have in common is that they see more of the negative effects of democracy than its positive aspects.

Generation Z wants stable simple long-lasting answers for complex issues by people they can trust to be stable for life not only from Election Day to Election Day. The sophisticated democracies in e.g. Europe seem not to satisfy their needs any longer. They feel disconnected from the political system. They realize voting and constitutional rights that they have the power in their nations is a theory while in practical life political parties, ministerial bureaucracy, and lobbyists have taken away their real power in real life.

The words of Donald Trump to divide his country further by which weakening America for generations to come and other powers to take over is another slap into the face of democracy and challenges other forms of governance to emerge. The toolbox of the historic governmental system is filled with ideas. Bits and pieces must be reassembled and updated to be fit for the challenges mankind is facing ahead in one, two, or three hundred of years to destiny and not being blown away by the storms of the moment.

The various concepts of democracy in Europe and e.g. the USA and Africa run the race for survival; possibly overhaul will grant them an extension. History is constantly on the run be it borders or political systems nothing has ever been the same since Adam and Eve. Whether democracy can win the trophy of excellence or a silver or bronze medal future will tell.

Which political party manifesto inspires hope?
