Former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has indicated that the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) current approach to governance is unattractive to him.
In an interview with Accra-based JoyNews on Wednesday, July 24, Prof. Frimpong-Boateng reflected on his experiences under the NPP government and expressed reservations about how the party is functioning today.
He reiterated that while he subscribes to the ideas of the UP tradition, praises should be given to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah for his good works irrespective of ideological differences.
"I subscribe to the ideas of the U.P. tradition at the same time we have to honour Nkrumah who did so much for us... That's how I see politics. We belong to certain traditions to certain reasons but that doesn't mean that you have to demonise your opponents. That is how I see it. But the NPP in its present configuration is not attractive to me," he said.
He trace this view back to how he was treated following the release of his 'galamsey' report on illegal mining activities in Ghana.
The report implicated several prominent figures and detailed widespread illegal mining, but Prof. Frimpong-Boateng says he faced criticism and felt efforts to tackle the issue were undermined.
This treatment, in his view, reflected deeper failures in the political landscape to govern effectively and improve transparency.
Prof. Frimpong-Boateng praised former President John Kufuor for the progress Ghana made under his leadership in stabilizing democracy.
His experience with the 'galamsey' report has seemingly diminished his faith in the party's ability to address critical challenges through accountable and inclusive governance.

This is no news Prof, we can see that from what had happened. The most important stuff is that, at every point in the political journey of a party, people fall in and out, especially when your time is in or out. Kudos for the past services to the party.
