Senior Psychologist, Professor Joseph Osafo, has cautioned the public against broadcasting unauthorized election results on the day of the presidential and parliamentary elections this December.
Prof. Osafo urged the citizenry, especially supporters of various political parties, media professionals, and bloggers, to refrain from prematurely announcing election results.
He emphasized the potential consequences of such actions, warning that they could incite violent confrontations and destabilize the country.
The Electoral Commission has already reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free and fair elections on December 7.
Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, highlighted enhanced preparations to ensure credible elections.
“In terms of the arrangements put in place, the conduct of our field staff, the availability of materials, and the functioning of our equipment, among others, the 2024 Voters Registration Exercise was highly successful,” Mrs. Mensa stated.
She continued, “It was inclusive and highly participatory, and to date, we have not heard or received any complaints relating to the disenfranchisement of citizens.”
During an interview on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Prof. Osafo urged Ghanaians to "certify the figures from the EC before accepting or publicising the election results.”
