Bekwai: None of your generations will become MP again — Koniyaw Chief curses Joseph Osei-Owusu

Traditional leaders of Koniyaw, a community in the Bekwai Constituency of the Ashanti region, have criticized Ghana's First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu, also known as Joe Wise.

The town's chief, Nana Boamah Koni Ababio IV, stated that throughout Joe Wise's tenure as the Member of Parliament for the area, his performance has been poor.

He pointed out the numerous developmental challenges facing many communities within the constituency, asserting that Hon. Joe Wise has failed to address them. According to the chief, Joe Wise would not have won the NPP parliamentary primaries or a general election if he had contested again.

Nana Boamah Koni Ababio IV made these remarks when the NPP parliamentary candidate for the area, Lawyer Ralph Poku-Adusie, paid a courtesy call on him on Thursday, July 18, 2024. The chief emphasized that Joe Wise's record has been tarnished, and as a result, no one from his lineage will be able to become an MP in the Bekwai constituency again.

"No son, daughter, or relative of Joe Wise will be voted for if they contest as a parliamentary candidate in the Bekwai Constituency. Joe Wise's name is an abomination to the Koniyaw community. The whole community will get up and walk away at the mention of the name Joe Wise," he stated.

The chief contrasted this with Hon. KT Hammond, who is much loved by the people of his constituency due to his development initiatives. "He has served for many years because of his good performance. They don't joke with him at all. He has tarred many roads in his constituency, and who do you think can win a contest against a person like KT Hammond? Your good deeds will follow you, and so shall your bad deeds," he said.
