Dr. Nathaniel Acolatse, Deputy Chief Physician Assistant at the Ghana Health Service, is seeking clarification on the paternity of two children born to his ex-wife, Maria Fianyo.
He claims that Maria Fianyo has denied him access to their children since December 2016 and has made statements and taken actions that suggest questionable paternity.
Dr. Acolatse, who has been married since 2009, alleges that his ex-wife has made false accusations against him and abandoned their children multiple times, including when the younger child was still breastfeeding. He stated that he has single-handedly cared for them.
At a press conference, Dr. Acolatse claimed that Maria Fianyo has frequently changed the children’s schools, forcing him to pay new admission and school fees each time. Despite taking the matter to court, he says he has been unable to secure justice. He further alleged that the courts have mishandled his case, with female judges and magistrates making biased decisions against him, including one instance where he was told that a man cannot take care of children.
Dr. Acolatse also accused Maria's family members of making threatening statements, including a claim by her elder sister, Rejoice Fianyo, who allegedly said she knows how to prove that Dr. Acolatse is not the father of the children.
He is calling on the Fianyo Xine family of Dzodze Fiagbedu to clarify who the biological father of the children is.
"Is it me? Is it Mr. Thomas Fianyo Xine, my father-in-law? Is it Cletus Fianyo, my wife's stepbrother? Is it Efo Korshie, my friend? Is it Godwin, my wife’s sister’s husband? Is it John? Who is the biological father of the two children born to Maria while we were married?" he questioned.
Dr. Acolatse listed 15 instances of Maria’s comments, actions, and inactions that suggest she may be questioning the paternity of the children, including statements such as: "I did not give birth to any child for him," and "I'll poison the children to death and kill myself. The Judge of Tema TDC Court is the one who asked me to go for the children and cautioned me never to allow him to have access to them. I will use the law against you, and you will never come out of it. You will know that I am a woman. Is that one too a man who can father a child?"
Dr. Acolatse is seeking justice, access to his children, and calls on the relevant authorities to investigate the matter and ensure he is treated fairly.
