Take action against “Ghana Paralympic Team” for absconding in Norway – Amputee Football Association to gov't

The General Secretary of the Ghana Amputee Football Association, Mohammed Harmis Huzair, is urging the relevant authorities in Ghana to take action against a group calling itself the “Ghana Paralympic Team” after they absconded in Oslo, Norway.

His remarks follow the disappearance of a group of Ghanaian Paralympic athletes who failed to participate in the Fjordkraft Bergen Marathon in Norway.

Harmis supports the Ministry's declaration that strict disciplinary measures will be imposed on the group claiming to be Ghana’s Paralympic team.

“It is a marvel when we heard that our letterhead; even though we’ve stopped using that letterhead. So, it came as a surprise to us that we have issued a letter to the Norwegian Embassy requesting visas for athletes in preparation towards the para games in Paris. Meanwhile, amputee football is not one of the disciplines.

“Moving forward, this has to do with a bit of criminology and therefore we think that the appropriate authorities must come on board to investigate the issues for a conclusion. We also must make sure that anyone found culpable must face the full rigours of the law,” he stated.

An 11-member team from Ghana, scheduled to compete in the marathon, arrived in Oslo on April 25, 2024, but failed to appear at the event. Following their non-appearance, a search operation was initiated. During this, Nana Antwi, a para-athlete and team member, was apprehended while trying to travel from Norway to Sweden by train.

The President of the National Paralympic Committee – Ghana, Samson Deen, denies any involvement with the team.
