Academic work at the Asem Cluster of Schools in Kumasi has been suspended on Monday, July 22, 2024, in the morning following the invasion of cattle on the premises.
The stray animals numbering about thirty prevented some teachers and pupils from entering their classrooms to start morning lessons.
The animals were found walking on the veranda and the compound while urinating and defecating, a scene that caused fear and panic among the schoolchildren.
A visit by this reporter at 7:30AM saw the classroom doors and windows closed to prevent the animals from entering, while some pupils were standing far from the compound.
Some of the teachers who spoke on condition of anonymity said the compound has been used as a grazing field for the cattle for many years despite complaints that have yielded no results.
They stated that the situation always disrupts school activities, risking the lives of teachers and pupils.
“For the fear of their children and wards lives, parents and guardians are withdrawing them from the school, gradually collapsing the school,” they further said.
Some of the pupils speaking to this reporter expressed concern about the constant sweeping of animal excreta and urine in the morning, which causes them discomfort.
