Development Economist and Professor at the University for Development Studies (UDS), Michael Ayamga-Adongo, has cautioned that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has a strong chance of winning the 2024 General Elections, the party's current actions could jeopardize its success if not addressed promptly.
In an interview with Bolgatanga-based Dreamz FM, Prof. Ayamga-Adongo highlighted that the NDC's deliberate alienation of some key members, making them feel excluded from the party, could be a critical factor that might cause their defeat.
"There are some things that they (NDC) can do that can make them lose it. And they are doing some of them and I think they ought to be very careful.
“They are behaving as if they are already in power. And they have begun alienating some people," he remarked.
He emphasized that if the NDC can unite everybody together and focus its campaign message effectively, particularly on ways to address the economic challenges, it could secure a decisive victory, as suggested by several survey reports.
"Anytime people are not talking about the economy, it makes the NPP have hope [of giving the NDC a run for their money]. And that's why I think they need to get their messaging right and to stay on point," he advised.
He stressed that behaving as though they are already in power would be dangerous.
