President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. has announced his decision to not seek reelection in the upcoming 2024 presidential race. This announcement was made through an official statement released on July 21, 2024, where President Biden reflected on the significant progress made during his tenure and his continued commitment to the American people.

"Over the past three and a half years, we have made great progress as a Nation," President Biden stated. Highlighting key achievements, he emphasized America's strong economic standing, historic investments in infrastructure, and advancements in healthcare. Notably, his administration has succeeded in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, expanding affordable healthcare to a record number of Americans, and providing critical care to veterans exposed to toxic substances.

Biden also underscored legislative milestones, including the first gun safety law passed in 30 years and the most significant climate legislation in history. Additionally, his administration has marked a historic moment with the appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court.

Acknowledging the collective efforts that have driven these achievements, Biden expressed his gratitude to the American people. "Together, we overcame a once in a century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We've protected and preserved our Democracy and revitalized our alliances around the world."

Despite his intention to seek reelection, Biden revealed that he believes it is in the best interest of his party and the country for him to step down and focus on fulfilling his presidential duties for the remainder of his term. He conveyed his deepest gratitude to those who supported his reelection efforts and thanked Vice President Kamala Harris for her partnership.

Biden concluded his statement with a reaffirmation of his enduring belief in America's potential. "I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can't do - when we stand together."

President Biden is expected to address the nation later this week to provide more details about his decision and the path forward for his administration.
