An incident in Indianapolis resulted in the death of a 29-year-old man after a confrontation with another driver turned deadly.
The incident, captured on video by an eyewitness, shows Gavin Dasaur approaching a white Chevy pickup truck on Tuesday evening, July 16, 2024, and attempting to punch the driver while holding what appears to be a handgun.
The driver of the Chevy truck tried to deflect the punch, and Dasaur shifted the weapon to his left hand, reproaching the driver and pointing at them repeatedly with his right hand.
In a quick escalation, the driver of the Chevy truck drew their own gun and fired repeatedly at Dasaur, who fell to the ground.
The seven-second video concludes with the person filming the incident taking cover in their own car.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported that the shooting occurred at around 8:15 p.m. near the intersection of South Emerson Avenue and Thompson Road.
According to witnesses, the altercation stemmed from a road rage incident between Dasaur, who was driving a black Honda, and the driver of the pickup truck.
The driver of the pickup truck was initially detained by police but was later released after investigators suggested that the driver may have acted in self-defense.
Cinthya Zamora, Dasaur’s wife, expressed her grief and condemned the shooting. "He was a hardworking man that always went out of his way to help anyone and wanted to give the world to me and his family,” she told journalists.
