Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra, Ghana is reporting normal operations despite a major global outage affecting some airport systems worldwide.

This according to a statement from Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) management issued on Friday, July 19.

"We would like to assure the general public that Kotoka International Airport's IT systems are intact," said part of the GACL statement.

“However, due to the global nature of the glitch, some flight delays and interruptions may be experienced from countries affected by the glitch, which may have a slight impact on Accra,” it added.

So far, the impact on KIA has been minimal. Of the airport's 24 international airlines, only one carrier has had to cancel a small number of its scheduled flights due to issues originating from its operations elsewhere.

"All other operations are uninterrupted and on schedule as usual," the statement continued.

GACL management added that they will continue monitoring the situation and providing updates as needed.

The outage, which impacted airports and airlines in other parts of the world on July 19, 2024, was caused by a software update from leading cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, Ghana’s Cybersecurity Authority reported on Friday.
