We’ll not tolerate you pulling down our billboards — Mahama’s campaign team warns NPP

The campaign team of NDC flagbearer John Dramani Mahama has warned the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) against any removal of their campaign billboards.

According to the opposition party, such actions could destabilize the country's democracy.

In a statement on Friday, July 19, Mahama campaign spokesperson Joyce Bawah Mogtari condemned the Tema Metropolitan Assembly chief executive for tearing down a billboard mounted by their campaign team.

"This act is unacceptable and constitutes a needless provocative attempt to raise the political temperature in the country," it said in part.

The statement noted that Alliance Media, the company that installed the billboard, had acquired the proper permits but saw its legally placed advertising dismantled.

"Therefore, it is utterly unacceptable for the TMA chief executive to tear down their legally placed billboard, which the Mahama Campaign rented and paid for," the spokesperson noted.

The opposition party accused the NPP of similar disruptions in other constituencies like Ablekuma North, where a billboard for the opposition NDC parliamentary candidate was blocked.

“Such needless acts, which lead to deliberate political clashes and violence, are detrimental to the growth of our democracy,” Mr. Mahama’s campaign stressed.

The Mahama campaign team has threatened to mobilize its members countrywide to prevent further removals should such incidents persist.

It called on the NPP to campaign peacefully and respect the rights of others.
