Cancel the undeserving, partisan honorary doctorate you’re giving 'annoying' Akufo-Addo or leave our land — Volta NDC youths to UHAS

The youth wing of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Volta Region is protesting the University of Health and Allied Sciences' (UHAS) plans to confer an honorary doctorate degree on President Nana Akufo-Addo.

In a statement released on Thursday, July 18, the Volta Regional Youth Organizer of the NDC, Mathias Johnson Alagbo, said the youth "are totally disappointed" by UHAS's proposal, calling it "infuriating and unacceptable."

"It is infuriating and unacceptable that UHAS would even consider honoring a leader whose policies and actions have profoundly undermined the welfare and development of the Volta region and the nation," Alagbo stated.

He claims that the NDC government, under former Presidents John Atta Mills and John Mahama, was responsible for establishing UHAS "from scratch" and providing the initial resources and development.

The NDC youths also questioned what contributions the current Akufo-Addo administration has made to merit such an honor. "

“Where are the developments, funding, or support his administration provided to merit such an honour?" they asked.

The youth organizer asserted that the Volta Region has faced "systematic neglect" under President Akufo-Addo, with critical infrastructure projects stalling and the region not receiving its fair share of national development.

If UHAS does not withdraw the proposed honorary doctorate, Alagbo warned that the youth will "explore all lawful and democratic means to ensure our voices are heard, including organizing massive and sustained demonstrations against the management until they are removed from our land."
