We’ll ensure transparency in election 2024 — EC assures

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa has assured stakeholders of transparency in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

She gave this assurance on Wednesday, July 17, after receiving the Democracy Cup from Parliament's leadership.

In her remarks at the brief ceremony, the EC Chairperson noted that the EC serves as the "midwives that birth elections" and acts as the "referees that conduct all electoral processes."

She stated, "So as referees we are committed to ensuring that our activities from now in the lead up to the election and all our electoral processes are transparent, they are open, they are fair, and they involve the collaboration of our key stakeholders, that is, the political parties and the citizenry."

"We commit to ensuring transparency in all aspects of our work...We will commit to maintaining and showing that level of transparency across all aspects of our work,” the EC boss stressed.

She called on political parties to accept the outcome of the 2024 elections.

“Surely there will be a winner and surely there will be losers," she stated.

Her assurance of transparency aims to boost confidence at a time EC's impartiality and credibility ahead of the December polls have been challenged by the opposition NDC.
