The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) has called on all presidential candidates contesting in the 2024 general elections to take part in an upcoming debate on their policy proposals.

In a press statement released on July 17, the IEA said the debate will provide the candidates with an opportunity to directly present and discuss their various plans and programs with the electorate.

"The Debates will provide a common platform for the Presidential Candidates and Vice-Presidential Candidates to discuss various aspects of the nation's development process," the statement said in part.

"It will be a form of policy dialogue engagement during which the Candidates will have the opportunity to present their viewpoints, plans and programmes, and also point out weaknesses in the policies of their co-contestants and present alternatives to those policies and programmes," it added.

The policy-oriented debate, which will feature questions submitted by Ghanaians on key issues like the economy, education, healthcare, and agriculture, is aimed at informing voters about each candidate's plans to address the country's challenges.

"The Electorate on the other hand, will receive firsthand information on the programmes and plans of each candidate," the IEA said.

It further encouraged all candidates "to take advantage of the Debates to inform Ghanaians of their policies to address the country's challenges."

The IEA, a reputable public policy think tank, hopes the debate will promote issues-based discussions during the electioneering period and assist voters in making informed decisions at the ballot box.
