Mr. Edward Apenteng Gyamerah, Commissioner in Charge of the Domestic Revenue Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), announced that the GRA did not meet its revenue targets for the first three months of this year.
Commissioner Gyamerah, who has led the Domestic Revenue Division since October 2019, noted that significant changes occurred in April with the appointment of a new top management team headed by Commissioner General Ms. Julie Essiam. Additionally, a new Board chaired by Hon. Joe Ghartey was sworn in the following month in May.
He emphasized that, alongside the new Minister for Finance, they were determined to reverse the declining revenue collection trend. To achieve this, they implemented new strategies and pushed themselves to meet the targets.
Commissioner Gyamerah made these remarks during a courtesy call on the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Dr. Paul Kwabena Boafo, led by the GRA's Chairperson, Hon. Joe Ghartey.
Acknowledging the challenges faced by tax officials, Commissioner Gyamerah requested the Methodist Church and all churches to remember them in their prayers. He mentioned that the new Minister and Board had placed them under significant pressure, which ultimately helped them exceed their expectations.
Commissioner Gyamerah's Division is responsible for collecting over 70 percent of Ghana's tax revenue.
