Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as NAPO, has not resigned as the Running Mate to New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
NAPO, the immediate past Energy Minister, was officially unveiled as Dr. Bawumia's Running Mate in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
Since his unveiling, he has been actively engaging with traditional leaders and is preparing for a nationwide campaign tour to garner support from Ghanaians.
However, rumors have been circulating on social media, fueled by a viral press statement suggesting that Dr. Opoku Prempeh had submitted a resignation letter stepping down from his role as Running Mate.
These rumors seem to have been sparked by his recent public misstep regarding Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
Fiifi Boafo, the spokesperson for Dr. Opoku Prempeh, has firmly denied these claims.
In an interview with Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show, Boafo clarified the situation stating, "It is rather his job as Energy Minister that he has resigned from, but it is never true that he has stepped down as a Running Mate."
