Mr. Akwasi Oppong Fosu, the former Minister of Local Government and Rural Development in the erstwhile National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, has called on the youth of Ghana to take action and prevent the country from descending into further crisis.
Speaking at a general meeting of the University of Education (UEW) branch of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC, Mr. Oppong Fosu expressed his deep disappointment with the current state of affairs. He urges the youth to rise up for change by kicking out the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
"The youth must rise up to the occasion and rescue our country from falling into the abyss," Mr. Oppong Fosu urged. He highlighted the need for the younger generation to recognize and resist the exploitation of national resources by those in power.
The former minister warned that the youth might soon be forced to defend their interests due to what he described as leadership failure and governance dysfunction. He pointed to issues such as economic mismanagement, unemployment, and huge public debt as symptoms of the current administration's shortcomings.
Drawing a parallel to the struggles faced by Kenya, Mr. Oppong Fosu emphasized that Ghana's situation could become even more dire if not addressed promptly. He stressed that the battle is not between members of TEIN and the Tertiary Education Confederacy Network (TESCON), but rather a broader fight between the youth of Ghana and those orchestrating the country's plunder under the NPP government.
Mr. Oppong Fosu proposed mass mobilization of the youth as a solution to oust the NPP from power through the ballot box. He assured that the NDC, under the leadership of Mr. John Dramani Mahama, is committed to rescuing Ghana from its current predicament through a comprehensive transformational agenda.
As the country approaches another election, Mr. Oppong Fosu's call to action serves as a rallying cry for the youth to engage actively in the political process and advocate for change.
