Member of Parliament for Amasaman, Akwasi Owusu Afrifa-Mensa, has criticised the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for labelling Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as an advocate for the LGBT+ community in Ghana.
Defending the former Minister of Education, Afrifa-Mensa emphasised that NAPO does not support homosexuality.
This defence comes in reaction to claims made by former Buem Member of Parliament, Kwesi Ashaimah that NAPO advocates for LGBT activities.
Ashaimah cited the Comprehensive Sexuality Education Curriculum, which faced opposition and was eventually scrapped under NAPO's leadership as Minister of Education.
But Afrifa-Mensa refuted these allegations, describing NAPO as a family man who upholds traditional values.
"NAPO does not promote 'trumu trumu' [LGBT+]. This is a false narrative being pushed by the NDC.
“Last week, when Mahdi Jibril came on the show, he made the same allegations, and today, Ashaimah is doing the same thing," Afrifa-Mensa stated.
He advised the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to concentrate on their campaign efforts, highlighting that NAPO brings value to the NPP ticket as the running mate of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
"We believe that with him onboard, we will go places. We will win the elections. So let's stop tagging him as arrogant.
“We should look at his positives and what he can do for the country. I will appeal to the NPP to hit the ground running and campaign effectively to secure our victory," Afrifa-Mensa added.
