Infrastructure plays a crucial role in the development and growth of a nation.
Infrastructure such as roads, bridges, ports, and airports are essential for facilitating the movement of goods and people, which in turn boosts economic activity and trade. A well-developed infrastructure can attract investments, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.
Infrastructure connects different regions within the country, improving accessibility and promoting social and economic integration. It also connects the country to the global economy, enabling trade and exchange of goods and services with other nations.
Infrastructure such as water supply, sanitation, healthcare facilities, and education institutions are essential for improving the quality of life of citizens. Access to basic services and amenities enhances living standards and promotes overall well-being.
Well-planned infrastructure can enhance a nation's resilience to natural disasters and climate change. Infrastructure projects that incorporate sustainable practices can help mitigate environmental impacts and contribute to long-term sustainability.
Infrastructure development often involves the adoption of new technologies and innovative solutions. Investing in modern infrastructure can enhance a nation's competitiveness, attract skilled labour, and foster innovation in various sectors.
Infrastructure projects can address social inequalities by providing access to essential services in underserved areas. Improving infrastructure in marginalised communities can help reduce disparities and promote social inclusion.
Overall, infrastructure is a critical foundation for a nation's development, enabling economic growth, improving quality of life, fostering connectivity, and enhancing resilience and sustainability. Investing in infrastructure is essential for building a strong and prosperous nation.
And it is for these reasons H.E. John Mahama, former president of Ghana, and the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress in the December, 2024 polls, has promised to allocate funds every year for abandoned projects if he is elected as the next president.
He has recognised the importance of completing these projects to benefit the communities they were intended for and to prevent wastage of resources. Mahama has pledged to prioritise the completion of these projects and ensure that they are fully funded and implemented in a timely manner.
This commitment demonstrates his dedication to improving infrastructure and development in Ghana and his willingness to address the issue of abandoned projects.
