Mahama to adequately compensate families of victims of the 2020 elections

It would be recalled that a total of eight lives, including three minors were lost during the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections while about 15 other electorate also received various degrees of injuries mostly from gunshots.

The killings which were recorded at Tamale, Techiman, Odorkor, Ablekuma and Savelugu happened after Election Day during collation.

In connection with these incidents, Former President John Mahama has pledged to adequately compensate the families of the eight people who were tragically killed. These individuals lost their lives in various incidents during the electoral process, and their families have been seeking justice and support in the aftermath of these tragic events.

Mahama, who was the presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 elections and the NDC flag bearer for the upcoming polls in 2024, has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and has promised to ensure that they receive the compensation and support they deserve if elected as president.

He has also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of these individuals, in order to hold those responsible accountable for their actions.

The former president's commitment to compensating the families of the victims reflects his dedication to upholding justice and ensuring that the rights of all Ghanaians are protected. It is important for the government and all stakeholders to work together to prevent such tragic incidents from occurring in the future, and to ensure that those who have been affected receive the necessary support and assistance.

He has therefore assured the families of all who lost their lives during the tragic incidents not to despair.

“Insha Allah, when we come into office, we will investigate the killings, bring the perpetrators to face the law and pay the appropriate compensations,” Mahama announced.
