James Kwabena Bomfeh has expressed his displeasure with comments made by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh during his unveiling ceremony as the running mate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region.
In his speech after being introduced in Kumasi, the Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, also known as “NAPO,” made some claims which received public backlash.
He stated, “Since independence from 1957 till today, we’ve not had any president that has helped Ghana like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I say from 1957 till today, you can bring your Kwame Nkrumah... no president has protected Ghana and moved the country forward like Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.”
James Kwabena Bomfeh, former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), reacting to this on Peace FM's "Kokrokoo" morning show cautioned NAPO against undermining Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana’s first President, and his legacy.
Mr. Kwabena Bomfeh, popularly known as “Kabila,” emphasized that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s contributions cannot be compared.
“Kwame Nkrumah is not a person to joke about. Even though he is not without blemish, he led Ghana to gain our independence.
"Aside from this and beyond his good works, he’s written more than any President in the Republic of Ghana, intellectually contributing to the development of the minds of Ghanaians and the world at large, especially among the black race and suffering people around the globe,” he said.
Kabila also advised the NPP running mate to avoid making such mistakes as he and his flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, aim to win the December general elections.
“Let us avoid making mistakes or repeating mistakes should be your clarion attention,” he warned.
