The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has praised the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for his wise counsel and guidance in navigating the challenges of parliament.

According to Bagbin, he has sought advice from the Asantehene on numerous occasions when faced with difficult decisions, and the Asantehene's input has always been invaluable.

During a visit to the Asantehene on Sunday, June 30, 2024, Bagbin said, "I have been able to navigate one of the hottest parliaments in the history of Ghana due to the wise counsel of the Asantehene."

The Speaker's visit was to seek permission to organize a public forum in the Ashanti Region.

During the visit, Bagbin expressed his gratitude to the Asantehene for his contribution to the development of democracy in Ghana.

"The Asantehene's input has always been a game changer," Bagbin said. "I have called on him countless times for advice, and he has always been willing to offer his wise counsel."

Bagbin's visit to the Asantehene is seen as a sign of respect and appreciation for the Asantehene's role in promoting peace and stability in Ghana.

Caution Against Mimicking Western Democracy

For his part, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expressed concerns about Ghana's democratic system, warning against blindly adopting Western democratic principles.

The Asantehene noted that combining elements of UK and American democracy in Ghana's constitution has not helped accountability in Ghana's democracy.

He has therefore urged the legislature to think about it and make the necessary reforms
