Politics Akufo-Addo doing everything to control governance when he’s even out of power – Sam Pee Yalley

Former Ghanaian Ambassador to India High Commission, Mr. Sam Pee Yalley, has accused President Akufo-Addo of attempting to maintain control over government affairs even after leaving office, should his Vice President and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) assume governance.

Mr Yalley alleges that the president's recent appointments are strategically designed to create favourable conditions for himself and his associates post-administration.

Mr Yalley expressed these concerns while responding to the appointment of the President’s Executive Secretary, Nana Asante Bediatuo, as Ambassador at Large.

He argued that the President has deliberately positioned his close associates in key roles to ensure their continued influence once he is no longer in power.

These remarks were made during an interview on the Ghana Yensom morning show, hosted by Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Mr Yalley contended that the president's appointments are a calculated effort to keep his immediate family members and close allies relevant in the government.

He highlighted the recent appointment of the former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, as a Special Presidential Advisor on Finance as part of this strategy.

Mr Yalley explained that the position of Ambassador at Large is a high-level diplomatic role without a specific country assignment, underscoring its significance.

He also noted that the President seems to favor expansionary politics and mentioned that they are keenly observing whether the President will announce a replacement for Mr. Asante Bediatuo
